One of the most common services Private Investigators provide is that of background checks, background searches and background verification. Whilst these three may all sound the same, they are in fact different. Some of the services below may not be available nor lawful in some countries.
Background checks
Background checks is a term generally used to describe a service that a person wants carried out specifically targeted at what an individual has alleged or told another person that this person does not necessarily believe. It could be that the person has alleged that they are not married or not in a relationship, represent a particular organisation, have a certain profession, are in possession of certain qualifications or perhaps have received certain accolades for their services/actions.
Almost all people who want a background check undertaken are proven correct about their suspicions. Your intuitiveness, gut feeling, suspicions are generally well founded – you just don’t have the proof.
These background checks usually involve the gathering of information from third parties, persons who will know the truth and not necessarily being able to be supported by physical documentation. Some of this background searching work is undertaken via surveillance to confirm the truthfulness of a person allegations.
There is almost always a way to gather background check information lawfully and it takes an inventive and creative mind at times to achieve these outcomes. Lyonswood has developed and pioneered techniques in background checks that other investigation companies haven’t even thought of.
Background searches
These differ from background checks in that private investigators generally obtain documentary proof to either support or counter the allegations of the persons background. These background searches might relate to company searches, land titles searches, bankruptcy searches, criminal records searches, credit searches, financial searches, address searches, tenancy searches, marriage searches, mobile phone number searches, unlisted phone number searches and media searches. There are many more back ground search requirements that we often undertake in this regard.

Background verification
Background verification can take on other dimensions and is generally undertaken via surveillance of the person when all other attempts to verify these circumstances through background searches and background checks have failed to find evidence in other ways. Surveillance is a powerful tool and you never really know a person until you follow them.
Often surveillance turns up evidence that not only refutes what the surveillance target has told our client but also what the client does not expect as an added bonus.
It could be that a background verification target person is alleging that they work in a certain profession and that background searches have failed to adduce any evidence of this. It might be that the background verification target alleges they are single, married, wealthy, reside or work in a certain place, have a certain illness, are in receipt of certain treatment for that illness or incapacity, are overseas but are not etc. All of these circumstances have been previously investigated by Lyonswood and verified or refuted.

The cost of a background check, background search or background verification we greatly vary dependent upon where the background searches, background checks and background verification is to be undertaken, how many background searches need to be undertaken and the cost of these background searches individually.
